Children from Rhyl Primary School in Kentish Town have enjoyed a story-telling session with an up-and-coming writer.
First-time author Ana Fischel, whose book, The Zartarbia Tales, was published in October last year, read to the children at Books Etc in Finchley Road last Tuesday.
The pupils were each given a £5 voucher to spend on a book of their choice.
The event was organised by Reading is Fundamental, a scheme which encourages children to read by giving them access to free books.
Ms Fischel said: “At a time when books often have to compete with television and computer games, I welcome the opportunity to share with children the joy that reading can bring.”
She has promised to visit the school in Rhyl Street to read to the pupils again and to answer questions.
Teacher Emma Parker said: “Having an author visit really brings the readings to life for the children. Such visits are exciting. It’s also good for children to visit bookshops regularly and buy their own books.”
